Congratulations to Meredith Lambert on her 2:48:21 posted in the US Women's Olympic Marathon Trials.   Her April 20 effort in Boston was good for 80th place amongst the best marathon field the US has to offer.

Thank you to everyone who came out on March 29 to participate in the Mike Clark Memorial Run.  The date was especially appropriate, as Mike's birthday was the day prior.  We had about 60 people come for the group run, which may be a record!   Unfortunately, our attempts for a pre-run group photo were unsuccessful.   Even more friends and family of Mike's came to our post-run breakfast.   We're all very grateful to Mike Monagle for hosting and providing a fine meal.   Here are a few photos from the post-run celebration.   Thanks again for making this tribute to a beloved member of our community a great success!

Bijan Sorouri's photos from the 2008 Caesar Rodney Half Marathon may be seen here.

Long time club member Mike Clark passed away around 2:00am on March 7th from complications from an infection.

Mike was an outstanding athlete and close friend to many of us. He will be sorely missed.

The Memorial will be at the Hockessin Police Athletic League on Tuesday afternoon, March 11th, at 3:00pm.

DRC members Cassie White and Patrick O'Rourke were the overall winners of the March 2 JCC 5-mile Snowball Run.  Cassie's winning time of 30:43 set a new state age group record for 18-and-under women.   Patrick won his race in 27:32.   Great job, guys!

Congratulations go out to Lindsay Scarborough and Joe Switzer on the occasion of their February 29 leap marriage! The happy couple and 10K the dog will reside in Wilmington after a honeymoon ski trip to Jackson Hole.

Congratulations to Adam Singer, who ran a 3:18:56 in the inaugural Breast Cancer Marathon on February 17. Adam placed 3rd in his age group in the "26.2 with Donna", held in beautiful Jacksonville Beach, FL.

Shannon Matthews 5K results from Jan. 26, 2008 may be found here.

  • Linda Odle (3:27:54, 3rd Place AG)
  • Rick Schumeyer (3:43:38)

Gina Gambogi and Luke Brady Selected as 2007 Scholarship Winners

I'd like to thank you for selecting my daughter Gina Gambogi as this year's recipient of the Delaware Open Cross Country Championship Scholarship.  We were very surprised and happy to hear her announced as the winner at the State Cross Country Banquet.  Gina is our youngest of four children all of whom have run cross country.  My sons Sean and Alex ran for Sallies, my daughters Danielle and Gina have both run for Padua.  I coached all of them as grade schoolers as head coach of Corpus Christi for nine years and it was a joy to be part of the cross country community and meet so many great runners and families.  I have also been a member of the Delaware Running Club for many years and made many friends through this relationship.  Among my first encounters with this group was by running the Delaware Open Cross Country Championships where my family has participated for many years.

Again, thank you for selecting Gina.  She's been a joy for us to watch since she first started running in 3rd grade. She has made so many friends through this sport and had so many important and formative experiences as part of this sport.   I have attached a photo of Gina, Mr Strojny (owner of New Balance Delaware) and Luke Brady with the scholarship award.  Jim Walsh thought you would like to post this photo on your website.  We're happy to provide it.

Thanks again for all that you do for the running community in Delaware.

Best Regards,

Bill and Michelle Gambogi

Thanks to everyone who participated in making our Christmas Eve run and breakfast a great success!  We had about 40 people participate in the run.  Twenty-five of us descended upon the Hollywood Grille for a well-deserved breakfast.

Congratulations to Bijan Sorouri on becoming the Delaware Running Club's 2007 Runner of the Year!  We're all very impressed with Bijan's progress.  Great job!

Congratulations to Kristy Doughty, who ran a 3:31:18 at the Marine Corps Marathon on October 28, 2007 and qualified for the Boston Marathon!

Congratulations to Cajun Mike Bullinger for running a 3:34:06 at the Richmond SunTrust Marathon on November 10, 2007.

Our condolences go out to John Schlosser, who broke his foot and fibula during a training run on December 3.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.  We hope you re back running with us again soon.
